Amico Mio,
come ci starebbe bene un bel post celebrativo dove elencare tutte le cose fatte insieme, gli amici incontrati (e quelli raccattati) per strada in questi anni. Quanti anni. Come ci starebbe bene un mega pippone a due mani su quanto siamo stati bravi, su quanto poi, alla fine, chi ha ragione – chi la dura – la vince.
Ma vedo che la tua bacheca di facebook ed il tuo twitter stanno già riportando decine di messaggi di complimenti ed auguri di tanti amici più o meno veri, e non voglio certo fare con te quello che si mette in fila, suggellando il tutto con un “io te l’ho sempre detto!”. Perché per fortuna io posso permettermi di scriverti altro.
Quindi ecco la mia lettera, dove, molto felice per la notizia, lo sono un po’ meno per noi. Per me, per Te e per quelli che hanno reso possibile una cosa che, se ci pensiamo bene tutti insieme, era impossibile. E la tristezza, che poi in realtà altro non è che malinconia, è dovuta a tutto il tempo che c’è voluto.
E’ il 1989, cade il muro di Berlino ed io sono il migliore amico di tua sorella. E mi stai sulle palle.
E’ il 1991 e mi candidi a succederti nelle elezioni scolastiche distrettuali del centro di Roma, e vinco. Mi fai vincere. Poi vinciamo insieme il congresso del giovanile. Eravamo la Democrazia Cristiana. Il nemico si chiamava Sbardella.
E’ il 1992 e mentre crolla tutto noi cominciamo a pensarla diversamente.
E’ il 1994 ed io mi prendo gli sputi in faccia insieme Ielma al Tiburtino mentre volantiniamo per Roberto Di Giovan Paolo. Poi mi chiami la sera prima della presentazione della mia candidatura alla Circoscrizione (mai hai fatto chiamare al posto tuo, le cose le hai sempre dette in faccia anche agli amici, così si fa!) e mi dici che il partito ha scelto un altro. Rompiamo.
E’ il 1997 e siamo insieme a portare la bara.
E’ il 2001 e ti candidi a sindaco di Roma con Democrazia Diretta, dicendo le cose che dice oggi Grillo quando Grillo stava ancora lì a dire “E’ una cosa pazzesca!…”. Dieci-anni-prima.
E’ il 2005 e siamo nella lista civica per Marrazzo alle Regionali (certo che alcuni ce li siamo scelti col lanternino eh!). Forse in assoluto la sconfitta – delle nostre mille sconfitte – che mi brucia di più, ancora oggi.
E’ la primavera del 2006 e facciamo GenerazioneU, che poi sarebbe il Partito Democratico un anno prima del Partito Democratico, ma non lo so mica se oggi mi va ancora tanto di vantarmi di questa cosa.
E’ il 2007 e chiusi in quello schifo di ufficio con Marco e Vasco abbiamo l’idea della tua candidatura a segretario del partito: “Si può fare”. Prima di Uolter, prima di Obama, ma dopo Branduardi.
E’ il 2008 e sei il primo dei non eletti nel collegio Lazio1 al Parlamento.
E’ oggi, e se il nuovo sindaco di Civitavecchia terrà fede al giuramento che ha fatto sulla testa della figlia, si dimetterà da parlamentare e tu sarai Onorevole della Repubblica.
Vedi Mario, la verità è che alla fine la cosa più importante è che vincano le idee, lo so, ed allora si, abbiamo vinto. Ma rileggendo quanto fatto insieme, con quanto impegno, con quanta convinzione, con quanta tigna, è un po’ malinconico, appunto, constatare come ci abbiano prima sfinito e poi accontentato. Parlo di ‘loro’ al plurale, ma forse dovrei parlare della vita in generale, del destino, del fato. Ricordo quante volte ci siamo detti che bisogna immaginare Sisifo felice, che non erano esercizi inutili. Avevamo ragione. Avevi ragione. Ed eravamo felici, sempre. Se ripenso a tutte le cose elencate prima, al netto ovviamente del dolore per la morte e la rabbia per una brutta litigata (anche se, come dice Zio Topolino in Cars2: “Non ce litigio che valga un’amicizia” – e noi due lo sappiamo bene), le risate che ci siamo fatti mi hanno sempre ripagato di tutto. Ma ora siamo tutti lontani, sfibrati, sfiancati. Lo dico a te, che entrerai in Parlamento da solo, e lo dico agli amici che in queste ore fremono per la bella notizia. Ci riuniamo? ci riorganizziamo? ci riproviamo ora più che mai?
Perché mai dovremmo?! In fondo quello che abbiamo fatto lo abbiamo fatto sempre con passione e non per bisogno.
E una cosa abbiamo dimostrato negli anni, noi, tutti. Quelli che erano con noi nel ’92, quelli che c’erano nel 2001 e quelli di GenerazioneU. Non abbiamo mai, M.A.I., fatto politica per provarci. Mai per ambire a qualcosa che non fosse cambiare veramente le cose. Le dichiarazioni che sentiamo oggi dai grillini, sono le nostre di dieci anni fa. Mai come in queste ore il concetto di “timing” mi è stato così chiaro. E così sulle palle. Non siamo mai arrivati ad una poltrona. Neanche ad uno strapuntino. Ma questo per noi non è stato un problema. Ed è il punto di tutta la questione. Ci hanno preso per sfinimento e nel frattempo noi, che valore ne abbiamo, siamo riusciti a fare altro. Forse perché la nostra qualità ci ha permesso di essere posizionati in un livello piuttosto alto di quella cosa un po’ strana e indefinibile che al presidente D’Alema non è mai andata giù, ricordi? la Società Civile. Che negli ultimi anni è passato il messaggio che società civile volesse dire vecchi pensionati ai giardinetti con i piccioni o rasta maleodoranti con i cani al seguito, oppure ancora casalinghe brave a far di conto, ma oggettivamente bruttarelle. Senza contare i giovani precari che “cosa vuoi mai, sono precari, per forza vogliono cambiare le cose!”. La Società Civile invece è semplicemente un insieme più grande, che può tranquillamente comprendere i due tanto vituperati sottoinsiemi ‘politici’ e ‘classe dirigente’, che invece di essere compresi non ne hanno nessuna intenzione. Ed è su quel Civile che abbiamo provato a misurarci (si, è vero, suona stonato rapportato a te. A volte), vincendo senza vincere, tutti noi in questi anni. Forse se una pecca c’è stata, è stata quella di mandarti sempre avanti da solo. Pecca mia, che ho spesso curato più il contenitore del contenuto (e quindi avrei dovuto farlo meglio), pecca tua, che a stare davanti a schiacciare i sassi non ne puoi fare a meno… Ma a quelli che me l’hanno sempre menata con il tuo essere battitore unico ho tutte le volte risposto con i numeri. Più di diecimila preferenze nel 2001, quasi ottomila nel 2007 e centinaia di candidati, tutte e due le volte. Senza apparato, senza partito, senza un soldo. Molti di quelli candidati con noi alle primarie, oggi, sono esponenti locali del PD. E vanno fieri dell’avventura del 2007.
Però c’hanno sfiancato Mario, devi ammetterlo (non lo farai mai, lo so). Oggi che non c’è nessun masso che rotola da andare a recuperare, ma che anzi, arriva il premio, la coppa, sembra quasi che lo stadio sia vuoto. I tifosi si erano stufati di aspettare la premiazione e c’hanno lasciati soli, in mezzo al campo. Forse un vero colpevole non c’è. Forse è così che deve andare. L’idea ha vinto e noi con lei, ma ora?
Ora forse ti sto chiedendo un’altra volta di fare quello che ti è sempre riuscito meglio, convincermi. Convincere tutti, non solo me. Convincerci che si possa fare. Cosa non so, cosa non mi importa, ma Fare. Tu metti l’idea, noi la realizziamo. Ho così bisogno di sentirmi dire che si possa ancora fare, qualcosa, in politica. Per questo Paese. Li vedo, li seguo, i nostri parlamentari di riferimento, alcuni li conosco persino. Ma ho smesso da tempo anche di commentare le loro gesta. Sembra di vivere un eterno affondamento, con l’aggravante che il fondo non arriva mai e a respirare, nel mentre, si riesce sempre. Una roba che mi sa che si chiama agonia.
Che bella lettera da un migliore amico per un giorno di festa ve’?
Ma ti ricordi quante risate ogni volta che si perdeva di brutto? ogni volta che arrivavano gli insulti da tutte le parti? ogni volta che la bile degli altri si riversava su di noi a sfogare frustrazioni ben peggiori delle nostre? Oggi compensiamo un po’ allora, dai. Tanto poi sarò pronto a festeggiare insieme con gli altri. E sarò pronto ancora una volta a dire che sei il più bravo di tutti. Non ho problemi, mai me ne vergognerò. Perché mai mi sono trovato in disaccordo con te sull’analisi politica degli ultimi vent’anni.
Sei l’amico più sozzo, maleducato, irrispettoso e insensibile che io abbia. E non farei mai con te una vacanza, neanche se durasse due giorni. Ma sarei pronto a rifare tutto quello che ho fatto insieme a te e agli altri per altre dieci volte, se servisse, ancora oggi, a far conoscere a più gente possibile le idee che abbiamo per questo Paese.
Ma ne vale ancora la pena?
