Aktivkohlefilter werden in vielen verschiedenartigen Sektionen angewendet, unter anderem beider Aufbereitung von Trinkwasser, in dem Innenbau von Wohnhäusern, in Gasmasken, zur Vorschaltung von Ionenaustauschern, in Dunstabzügen, in Pfeifen-, Zigarillo- oder Zigarettenfiltern u.v.m.. Die Wirkung eines Aktivkohlefilters bleibt unabhängig vom zu trennenden Objekt unverändert. Der Kohlenstoff arbeitet als Reduktionsmittel und filtriert mechanische Teile. Überwiegend werden Aktivkohlefilter zum Filtern von Luft und H2O verwendet.
