Of course, I don’t see what gets deleted, but if there are swathes of foul-mouthed lunkheadedness, it’s surprising that I never seem to see it before it’s culled. I agree with Geoff Pullum and not with Fowler: “I would have liked to have known you” [4] seems clearer and more correct than “I would have liked to know you” [3].
