Aktivkohlefilter, AKF, sind Filteranlagen, welche Aktivkohle zum Inhalt haben. Aktivkohlefilter sondieren durch adsorbtive Rückhaltung sowohl Flüssigkeiten, Wasser als auch gasförmige Substanzen wirksam von ungewünschten Bestandteilen. Aktivkohlefilter werden in vielen differierenden Gebieten angewendet, wie inder Tinkwasseraufbereitung, im Innenbau, in Atemmaskenfiltern, zum Vorschalten von Ionenaustauschern, in Dunstabzugshauben, in Pfeifen-, Zigarillo- oder Zigarettenfiltern u.v.m.. Das Wirkungsprinzip eines AKF bleibt unabhängig von der zu filtrierenden Substanz gleich. Der Kohlenstoff arbeitet als Mittel zur Reduktion und filtriert mechanische Teilchen. Häufigstes Anwendungsgebiet der Aktivkohlefilter ist die Filtrierung von Luft und Wasser.
