Die Wirkung von AKF ist unabhängig von dem zu filtrierenden Objekt gleichbleibend. Der Kohlenstoff kommt als Mittel zur Reduktion zur Verwendung zum Filtern mechanischer Partikel. Überwiegend werden Filter aus Aktivkohle zur Filtrierung von Luft und Wasser verwendet.
