I have taken notice that in digital camera models, exceptional receptors help to aim automatically. The sensors of some video cameras change in contrast, while others use a beam involving infra-red (IR) light, especially in low lighting. Higher specification cameras sometimes use a mix of both devices and could have Face Priority AF where the photographic camera can See’ a face while keeping focused only upon that.
